Birds is comprised of four solo dances that come together. The solos ground themselves in the rhythms, qualities and nuances of selected bird songs, which are slowed down, revealing previously unheard detail. The bird songs are strange and rhythmically challenging, offering rich and detailed sound-scores from which to move.
The solo dances become containers for the nourishment of personal practices and preferences for choice-making. Each member offers their intuition and critical guidance. The solo dances will be brought together into a choreographic ecosystem, whilst having the potential to also be divided into individual strands. Eventually able to exist both together and alone, they are single songs that form a chorus.
Birds is a project initiated by Tara Silverthorn and created in collaboration with Eleven Farrer House. Developed with the kind support of Arnolfini (Bristol) and Dream Time residency (a creative initiative between Dance Base, Studio On The Green and LIVE Borders), as well as with public funding through Arts Council England and Creative Scotland.
